Gas for $0.001

CHARLESTON, West Virginia, Jan. 22, 2008 (NBC) -- West Virginia police say a gas station clerk was giving her friends gas at a tenth of a cent per gallon, adding up to tens of thousands of dollars in lost revenue.

Multimedia Watch The Video It happened at the Spring Hill BP station in South Charleston. Detectives say the owner of the gas station contacted them last week because his accounts were not adding up. He found that records were tampered with and noticed a trend of $.001 per gallon sales on Sunday mornings.

Police set up a sting and caught the clerk's friends lined up even before the station opened at 7am with dozens of gas cans in hand.

Officers arrested the clerk, Madeline Jordan, 25 of Nitro; her mother, Mary Jordan, 58 of Charleston; her brother, John Jordan, 27 of Charleston; her cousin, Vonnie Oldham, 38 of Leon; Clifford Parker, 47 of Leon; and Glennis Fields, 39 of Dunbar.

All six are charged with fraudulent schemes and have been taken to the South Central Regional Jail.

The pumps were still set at $.001 when crews arrived on scene.

Detectives say they believe the scam has been going on for months. They believe Madeline Jordan chose to do it early on Sunday mornings to avoid a high traffic time. They say she has been working this same shift for about six months.

Police towed five vehicles from the scene and confiscated all of the gas containers.

The owner told police this scam almost put him into bankruptcy. He said he can account for at least $40,000 lost so far. He added that he's relieved that the mystery of the missing money has been solved.

X14 2137 (IL) Smoked by an SUV

Ok, this was too funny of an incident. The intersection I was at has 2 lanes of traffic on each side. When you are heading south, the lanes merge to the left. The merge happens about 200 feet south of the intersection. There are left turn lanes, standard, nothing fancy. So hopefully I painted the picture of this intersection.

So I am the first car approaching the light in the left lane. Cars line up in the left lane, those turning left, in the left turn lane, those going right, in the far right lane to make their right turn.

Along came the driver of his Blue Ford X2 or Contour or something small to my right, inching up across the white lane/crosswalk. He is the only car there, so maybe he will be going across the intersection and making a right to the 7-11 there.

I am in my dirty Ford Explorer NBX (its for sale if anyone is interested ;) ) simply waiting for the light to turn green. It is the usual pattern, all lights are red, then the green arrows for those turning left goes on. The driver in the Blue Ford inches up some more...which gives me clear shot of his license plate (X14 2137(IL)). I look over and see the arrow goes yellow as one last car makes his sprint to make his left turn. The light goes green. I proceed and the car ahead makes his left turn in front of us. I sort of knew this would happen so of course I slowed up. Well, as soon as the car was clear, I proceeded to head south, cars behind me at the usual distance. In the other lane, when the light had gone green, the driver in the Blue car accelerates off the line only to hit his brakes as the car, which made the left turn for me, is now in his path. As I am just about to the single lane, the driver in the Blue car had attempted to speed ahead in the right lane and make a pass, only to simply get behind me and cut off the Jeep behind me. No big deal. Just wondering why he thought he could pass with parked cars ahead of him in the right lane. Obviously visually impaired or something.

Now the fun part. Doing the speed limit, this not-so-smart driver of the Blue Ford is on the bigger Ford Explorer's bumper...my bumper. Looking in the rear view, I see him flipping me off and I thought, this idiot is mad at me because someone else cut him off and he had to get behind me??? I was laughing and waved to him as he passed on the right...in which must of pissed him off more as he flipped me off.

I hope I see him again. I will have to hand him an "Idiot Award" or something.

Pace Driver Needs to "Curb" Actions

Pace Bus Driver on route 331, bus #6275 was driving down her route picking up passengers and dropping them off as usual, except the passengers were left off in the street and not at the curb.

Drivers seeing the bus stopped in the middle of the road, pull to the right to pass the bus with its hazards on, appearing broken down. But a surprise to many, a passenger jumps out right in front of a moving car.

Several drivers later had to again take evasive action as the female bus driver was drifting between lanes. At one incident, the bus nearly hit a two vehicles, the first passing on the right when the bus started to move into the right lane, then realizing her mistake, made a turn into the left lane, which nearly hit the back of another car which made an evasive move into the right lane to avoid the vehicle behind it from getting sideswiped.

Reports were made to Pace Customer Relations on the driver's behavior to hopefully, "curb" her habits.
